Ash-The-Smash

Once upon a time, two people gave birth to a little girl, and named her Ashlie (that would be me, obviously).  Very quickly the nickname "Ash-the-Smash"  was given to her, although I am not quite sure if it was because it just seemed to rhyme nicely, or if it was because I "smashed" into things alot.  Either way, that name stuck, and has become the inspiration for my very own company.  Its final, I have decided to get the ball rolling, get my licensing, and become a legit company.  This is a scary, yet exciting thing for me, but also something that has been A LONG time coming!!

Along with the name, I have adapted a perfect model, who seems to sport my creations almost EVERYDAY...Perfect little promoter, isnt that mommy of hers (and sister of mine coincidentally).  Amelia just hit the 6 month marker last week...I know, time flew by so quickly!!

Amelia Mae Arrives

So the little monkey actually made her appearance Monday, June 7, 2010.  Sunday night Alicia and Rob headed to the hospital to be induced, with myself, mom, and Ari not far behind them.  We hung out for a while...anxiously watching the monitors.  We left late that night to allow Lisha to get some sleep.  The next morning her water broke and labor began.  I had to work all day, but headed out there immediately afterwards.  I finally got to see the little monkey...I have posted some of the text messaged pictures my mom and sister sent to me while I was working that day.  The black and white photo was one I took when I first saw her.

Its Been A While

Alright, so I have been super busy.  Here I sit realizing I have SOOO much to catch everyone up on.  So I began by loading the 83472938592387 pictures that are still on my camera, onto my computer, (which seemed to take FOREVER).  Then, I thought I should start my postings with my sisters baby shower.  We held her shower on May 8th, 2010.  Little Amelia Mae was supposed to make her appearance on June 5th, 2010, so this gave us one month cushion for her shower.  There was so much to prepare for...first I had to make her invites.  I kept them pretty simple, but embellished each one with hand sewn fabric yo-yos in the same fabrics being used in Amelia's room.  Then came the 45 favors I decided to make....my handmade fabric flowers with a clip and pin option.  Each clip was clipped on to a large popcicle stick, and a tag was added...

The day before the shower I had probably 30-50 mini tissue paper pom-pom balls to make, cupcakes to bake, games to prepare for, and last minute food to shop for...All in all...the shower turned out to be great!! And our oldest sister, Mandie, was able to fly in for this one, so all of us girls were together FINALLY!!!

My Bestest is AMAZING!!

One week ago, today, I was in Fort Worth, TX.  I had the oportunity to see a major milestone in my best friends life.  She was about to begin her FIRST solo art show.  When I walked in the gallery, I was amazed, and proud.  Her work was the best I had ever seen her do.  Its crazy to see someone you have known almost your whole life, express her inner-most feelings on a giant canvas, and put them on display for everyone to see and enjoy.  When she began to speak, it almost brought tears to my eyes.  She is truely AMAZING, and I cant wait to see all that is coming for her.

The Etsy Shop is finally up and running!!!!

So after a lot of editing (which is still not completely done), my etsy shop is finally off the ground. I am so excited to share these goodies with you all, so please stop by the shop and check 'em all out.  This is such a labor of love for me, and if you notice, each piece is named after those that inspire me.  Enjoy!!

Dupioni Discovered

MMmmm...My newest obsession...Dupioni Silk...
The possibilities are endless. Headbands, clips, bib-style necklaces.  I dont know if it is the bright, bold colors or the way the fabric just "works" anyways you use it, but it is just screaming for me to make some yummy accessories.  I started working on the headbands, which quickly lead to a bib necklace for myself.  I will definately show pictures of that when it is complete.  I am already in love with it, and can tell it is going to be a favorite accessory of mine.
Ok, so these photos were taken with my phone, so again with the crappy camera.  I swear some day I am gonna get my computer back and this whole thing is gonna be so much easier... :)

Its So Hard Being Without A Computer

It all began when I was trying to update this very blog, and all of the sudden my computer decided that it was going to kick me off the internet.  Then it did it again, and again, and again, until I was completely irritated, and called the Tech Support.  After a 2 hour conversation with someone I could not understand, several diagnostic checks, we decided it was BROKEN!!  I was so bummed out, because that meant I was not going to get to update this thing for a while.  So here I sit, on a borrowed computer, attempting to get a post up, finally.

I have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of my newest niece, Amelia.  Its funny, because she isnt even due until June, but I cant wait!! A niece, right here, only 40 mins from me...I am Ecstactic!!!  Tomorrow is her first official baby shower, thrown by my sister's monther-in-law.  We are making the journey up to Thousand Oaks, Ca.  Today I begun crafting for this little munchkin.  and here is what I came up with...
Please excuse the HORRIBLE photo quality.  While I love my cell phone, I do not love the camera on it.  :)
Officially I welcome Baby AMELIA

Busy Little Bee

Time for another post.  Things have been so hectic and busy.  My bestest friend in the whole wide world came in to town from Texas with her Hubby for our friends wedding.  We had the best weekend, Bachelorette festivities on Thursday, Rehearsal/Dinner on Friday, and the Glorious Big Day on Saturday.  Aside from alittle rain that tried to ruin the day, it was a BEAUTIFUL wedding, and tons of fun.

I, also, by some chance ended up picking up some sort of bug, which left me pretty sick last week.  However, I am feeling better and back to my crafting self.  My first project, was a purple and teal headband which I wore to the girls dinner with friends.
The second was a yellow creation which I have been wanting to make for quite some time now.  I fell in love with this simple soft yellow and white polka dot fabric by Alexander Henry, and decided it would look perfect made into one of my headbands.  I was wearing this one for a night of cosmic bowling with Chelsea's Middle School D-Group. (which explains the neon colors and my awesome glow-in-the-dark necklace)

I then moved on to some more childish ones.  So after bowling, while watching a movie on Netflix, I begun some more projects.

Naptime Projects

Yesterday I put Henry down for his nap, (which is typically 3 hours or so), and grabbed my large craft bag, and begun a new project.  I have so many fabric scraps just sitting in a box, so I begun to create some new headbands.  I loved how the Yo-Yo headband turned out, so much that I thought it was time to play around with other sizes/materials.  I came up with some that I LOVE!!  I love making these yo-yo things so much, I am also thinking about making some sweet bib necklaces with them.  Although I am not sure how that will go.  Anyways, Here is how the headbands turned out.

Both are made with an assortment of fabric, buttons, and stretch elastic.

I have also FINALLY completed all of the monotonous tasks that were required for my official MOVE OUT...so now 1 month after moving out, I can finally check out and get my deposit back!! Praise the LORD!! :)

Bright Sunshine Day

Wow, I was under the impression it was going to be yet another gloomy, rainy, day...however, out popped the sun, and it has been there ever since.  Today is going to be an awesome day!!  First I am working till around 5:30, then heading to church tonight.

I just came across a few pictures of some old hair bows/flowers that I completed and sold. I kinda forgot about them, but am thinking its time to give them another shot.

The Journey Begins

It is finally time for me to begin this journey through the blog world. I am so excited to get to share with all of you my latest projects/products that I am working on. I am have discovered a new method of creating hair things. FABRIC YO-YO's!!! I am in love with the simplicity of them, and the way the fabric all mixes and matches to create a one-of-a-kind look. I am working on new designs and styles, but this one is my first attempt.

As most of you know, I have also been super busy lately, with the big dreaded "move". I officially moved out of my old place a few weeks ago, but it seems the checklist to getting the place move-out ready is never ending. Hopefully I will finish soon! As far as the new place. I am LOVING it!! For those of you who dont know, I have moved in with a family of 4 (soon to be 5). The little ones are adorable, and alot of fun. I can tell this is going to be a great situation already.
